What isn’t there to love about immersing oneself in paint? To record memories, to explore, experiment, be challenged & have fun; To experience the play of paint on canvas & paper, to give in to the mystery of the moment, to capture a point in time, & weave a fantasy of colour, texture & light is an unsurpassed pleasure. Keats’ line: “A thing of beauty is a joy forever” pretty well sums it up.
🎨 A doodler all her life, Marilyn, a professional librarian in Toronto , took up oils and watercolours in the early 70s while living briefly in Arizona. Upon returning to Toronto, she went to work at the Ontario Legislative Library, & took the odd art class at the Ontario Art Gallery. In 1990 she retired & moved to Prescott Ontario, where she joined the fledgling South Grenville Guild of Fine Art. In 1998 after a workshop with mentor Mary Wilbanks in Houston, Tx. she started to work in experimental collage and acrylics. Along the way she obtained a certificate in fine arts with distinction from St Lawrence College. Painting trips to England, France, Italy, Greece and Mexico have enriched Marilyn's painting vocabulary. In 1999 she had a solo show at her alma mater, Victoria College in the University of Toronto. In 2008 she built her personal art website, and now manages the Guild's website. She has had several commissions. Marilyn has exhibited with the Guild, the BGH Corridor Gallery, and at the Marianne Van Silfout Gallery juried shows. Her paintings have found homes across Canada, in England, Sweden, Spain, the US, Trinidad, and elsewhere.
