About Us
Established in 1991, the South Grenville Guild of Fine Art currently has 15 members who pursue their interests in painting (oils, watercolour, acrylics, pastels, collage and mixed media); photography; wood burning, and calligraphy. Its mission is three-fold:
(a) To foster the appreciation and development of visual art in South Grenville, emphasizing original and proprietary works of high quality.
(b) To provide a medium for members to exchange views, ideas and interests, to develop their skills and techniques further, and to socialize.
(c) To jointly plan and undertake various kinds of events to provide a forum for, and to encourage the creation, exhibition and sale of art works by Guild members.
The Guild meets on the third Monday of each month, September to June, with a brief summer recess. Pre-pandemic, the Guild held its premier exhibition in spring, and would also exhibit at the Brockville Arts Centre and at venues around Prescott. Past years saw exhibits in Merrickville, Cornwall, and at the Spencerville Mill.. A permanent gallery of Guild works may be viewed at the Prescott Public Library. Guild works may also be viewed at the Augusta Public Library in Algonquin.
In 2019, the Guild partnered with the St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival to mount ongoing exhibits at its Gallery 206.
Every year, before its spring show, the Guild donated an art book to a local library in the South Grenville area. Prescott, Augusta, Edwardsburgh and Cardinal, as well as the South Grenville District High School have benefitted from this initiative. Guild members also participate in charity benefits, donating their work for worthy causes.
The Guild welcomes new members. An application form is available on the drop-down page under Contact.
