About Us
Founded in 1991, the South Grenville Guild of Fine Art is a vibrant community of 18 artists who share a passion for creative expression. Members work in a wide range of media, including oil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel painting, collage, charcoal, pencil, pottery, ink, mixed media, ceramics, encaustic, and photography.
This year marks a special milestone as the Guild proudly celebrates its 35th anniversary, reflecting more than three decades of artistic excellence, community engagement, and support for the visual arts in South Grenville.
The Guild's mission is to:
- Foster the appreciation and advancement of visual arts in South Grenville, with an emphasis on original, high-quality artistic work.
- Provide opportunities for members to exchange ideas, share experiences, develop their artistic skills, and enjoy fellowship with fellow artists.
- Collaboratively plan and present exhibitions and other events that encourage the creation, exhibition, and sale of members' artwork.
For the first 22 years, the Guild held its annual spring exhibition at the MERC Hall in Maitland. Currently, the Guild holds its annual spring exhibition at Prescott's Royal Canadian Legion, with additional exhibits at venues throughout Prescott and the surrounding area.
Permanent displays of Guild members' artwork can be viewed at the Prescott Public Library and the Augusta Public Library in Algonquin.
Community involvement is an important part of the Guild's activities. Each year, in advance of its spring exhibition, the Guild donates an art book to a local library within the South Grenville area. Libraries in Prescott, Augusta, Edwardsburgh/Cardinal, as well as South Grenville District High School, have benefited from this initiative. Guild members also support charitable causes by donating artwork to fundraising events and community benefits.
As it celebrates 35 years of fostering artistic growth and enriching the cultural life of the region, the South Grenville Guild of Fine Art looks forward to continuing its tradition of creativity, collaboration, and community service for many years to come.
