Karen Atcheson
Karen Atcheson was born in Quebec and grew up surrounded by beautiful country charm. She graduated with Honours from St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, Ontario having studied Creative Visual Arts and Photography. In the summer she would paint and sketch local landscapes, houses, people and even illustrated story boards for children’s books.
Karen moved to Ottawa and worked her way up to be Creative Director for several leading advertising agencies. She now runs her own Graphic Design Studio where her illustration background is an asset in her daily work.
She has lived in the Prescott area for over 16 years and enjoys painting local landscapes and landmarks. Often, one or more of her three children can be found in her work.
Karen has also studied at the Ottawa School of Art, Algonquin College and St. Lawrence College in Brockville. She teaches photography at St. Lawrence College at the Cornwall and Brockville campuses and has taught art history at the Cornwall campus.
Karen is a member of the South Grenville Guild of Fine Art and paints both on location as well as from photographs, and enjoys painting by commissions. Karen loves painting and sketching on location with her husband George Tierney or one of her children. Karen’s loves to catch special moments in time, such as when a horse gets a special pat from a girl or a child sits patiently for a fish. Often she paints the figures from the back or side view, so that you feel that you are walking into the setting at that certain moment.
