Crystal Letts
A self-taught artist, Crystal learned painting by studying the old masters, and has taught oil painting to children, their parents and grandparents for many years.
After retiring from the nursing profession, Crystal enrolled at St. Lawrence College and achieved her Fine Art Certificate with Distinction, as well as a Diploma in Art History. She has studied oil painting and drawing classes with Henry Vyfinkel, workshops with Ann Barkley, and many courses with Diane Godwin-Sheridan in water-color theory, life drawing and art history. Also she studied silk painting with Irena Schmidt. Crystal also took folk art classes in Nova Scotia and photography with Karen Atcheson , and classes in stained glass at the Prescott Glass Shop.
Crystal is a member of the South Grenville Guild of Fine Art and the Brockville Artists Studio and has displayed in many shows with both guilds. She is also a member of Fine Arts of Brockville, and has displayed at the Marianne Van Silfout Gallery, and Art Scene of Spencerville, Ontario.
She was born and raised in the North Augusta area all her life and now resides in Brockville.
Having traveled many places in Europe, Turkey, Greece, Jamaica, the Caribbean, Canary Islands, Spain, Morocco, North Africa, England, Colorado, Edmonton, Nova Scotia, P.E.I., Pennsylvania, and Florida , Crystal had the opportunity of observing the arts around the world for her studies.
She first observed silk art on a trip to the Caribbean Islands and from then on wanted to learn more about silk art. Crystal believes that one is never too old or too young to enjoy learning and experiencing art because art is a part of our lives.
Her works have been purchased and displayed in many homes across Canada, the United States and England, the Moth Gallery in Merrickville, Corner Studio in Prescott and the Brockville Museum show with the Art Guild.
Silk has been her speciality for the past several years, after working many years in oil and acrylics. She mostly enjoys working with the silk and its beautiful shimmering iridescence of the dyes and paints on the silk.
