Violet’s art education began in Ottawa at the old High School of Commerce in the special ‘commercial art course’ and continued to formal training in photography (Sheridan College), graphic arts (Algonquin College) and fine art (Georgian College). Violet was a full time professor at Algonquin College and retired in 2014. She was also a founding member of ArtScene Spencerville, an artist cooperative gallery from 2009 to 2019. Originally painting with oil and loving to play and experiment, Violet began focusing on mixed media, which gives her the freedom to spontaneously change the direction of a piece, simply cover it all up, or just respond to what the painting tells her.

I cannot imagine life without art. I am often inspired by the cosmos, spirituality and things that are not really seen.The world is sometimes a crazy chaotic place so I try to create a place where the viewer and myself can find peace and calm. I love colour and texture and experiment with different combinations and I am often surprised at how beautiful and extraordinary they are when placed beside each other or thinly painted on top of each other.
