Leslie Sutherland
I grew up surrounded by my mother’s oil paints. In my late teens I bought three watercolour tubes and began my own art exploration - always using flowers as subject matter.
In my 50’s I introduced oils into my repertoire, then acrylics. In retirement, soft pastels became my medium of choice.
Now, however, I regularly switch between watercolour, oil, and soft pastel, depending on my mood and the time of year.
Being a detail person, and somewhat lacking in imagination, I have regularly copied art, or used a live plant as a subject. My current challenge is to develop a freedom of expression that will help me unleash the inner me - and put less strain on my eyes.
I am a self-taught artist, and use painting as a creative, private, and serene space to centre myself.
