A self taught sketch artist, Rolande experimented briefly with watercolour pencils but was drawn to acrylics where portraiture dominates her repertoire. An Ottawa native Rolande has always expressed herself with animation and passion. Her boundless energy finds her working part time and pursuing her horticultural display business while maintaining a small hobby farm in Spencerville. After moving to the country in 2007 she began to use some of her free time to seriously develop her visual artistic side.
She is currently working on her “Red Hill Township” series of compelling children from South Africa. “The contrast of those happy expressions while in such abject poverty need to be captured” she says. Inspired by nature she loves focusing on close up details when painting flora and fauna. In addition she enjoys exploring a wide variety of subject matter to further expand her skills.
Rolande also creates miniature wood turnings and photographs serene scenes around her property which she looks forward to sharing with you.
